Dr. Gena Ghearing has recently joined the epilepsy clinic after completing subspecialty training in epilepsy and in clinical neurophysiology with a focus on EEG at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Ghearing has a special interest in caring for patients with seizures and in evaluating patients for possible epilepsy surgery. She also attends on the epilepsy monitoring unit hospital service, where prolonged video-EEG monitoring is used for both determining whether a spell represents an epileptic seizure and assisting in the management of patients with known epilepsy.
Dr. Ghearing joined the University of Pittsburgh faculty in July 2007. She was previously an Instructor of Neurology at Mayo Clinic, where she completed a clinical fellowship in epilepsy, a clinical neurophysiology fellowship in EEG, and her neurology residency. She graduated from medical school at New York Medical College in 2001. Dr. Ghearing graduated from New York University with a B.S. Neuroscience.
