Multiple sclerosis, autoimmune central nervous system diseases, EEG and evoked potential testing.


Dr. Rock Heyman received his undergraduate and medical education at Ohio State University. He completed his transitional year internship at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh. His neurology residency was at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he also served as co-chief resident. He completed a fellowship in electroencephalography (EEG) and received additional training in evoked potentials and sleep disorders as well.

Dr. Heyman provides care for many of the people with multiple sclerosis and related disorders throughout the region. Dr. Heyman is active with both the national and regional National MS Society (NMSS), serving on the regional board of trustees and as their medical advisor, research advocate, and chairman of the clinical advisory committee. He is an active member of the national office of the NMSS medical advisory board and Council of Clinical Advisory Committee Chairs. Dr. Heyman chairs the education dommittee of the donsortium of MS Centers. Additional education efforts involve numerous CME programs regionally and nationally as well as producing both enduring CME materials for physicians and educational works (brochures, videos) for patients nationally.

Dr. Heyman is the lecturer for the medical school’s classes on MS and related disorders and he has assisted in course material development and teaching in the neuroscience course problem-based learning and small group neurology conferences. Dr. Heyman is involved in all of the division’s research trials and supports research activities related to MS in the Departments of Urology and Physiatry.

Dr. Heyman directs the MS Center and the Infusion Center at the department’s clinical main office in Oakland. Patients may receive pharmaceutical or biologic agents for treatment of their neurologic disease at this site.
