Currently, physicians from the Division of General Neurology see patients at Oakland, Wexford and South Hills locations. The goal of the Department is to expand services to other communities surrounding Pittsburgh to enhance access to the care provided by the neurologists in the UPP practice. The division chief is John Doyle, MD, who assumed the directorship of the residency program in neurology effective October 2006. Other division members are Lisa Roeske-Anderson, MD, and Maria Simbra, MD.
The General Neurology Division is integral to the training of both medical students and neurology residents. Drs. Simbra and Roeske-Anderson work closely with medical students as they rotate through neurology for clinical neuroscience courses. Dr. Doyle utilizes an out-patient setting as he provides instruction in general neurology for residents. The out-patient clinics prepare residents for clinical practice at the completion of their training.
Dr. Roeske-Anderson continues to see patients in the general neurology clinics, is active in the electromyography laboratories and works closely with the infusion center operated by the department. Her recent proposal for grand rounds based on current clinical cases is the impetus for monthly grand rounds that started in fall 2006 at which she and Dr. Doyle present interesting cases, as well as cases where diagnosis or treatment is problematic. City-wide participation with local neurologists will be encouraged. Dr. Simbra sees patients weekly in the general neurology clinics and is well-known in the Pittsburgh area as a medical journalist for KDKA television news. Successful recruiting efforts will add new clinicians in the next year.
The division continues to pursue affiliation with the newly-formed General Neurology Committee of the American Academy of Neurology |
